2011 CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Hystrio, IED Milano and il Centro per la fotografia dello spettacolo di San Miniato (the San Miniato Center for Performance Photography) present the third edition of the Hystrio-Occhi di Scena Award. This competition, dedicated to stage photography, aims at supporting a profession whose value is rarely correctly appreciated in the theatre community, while also intending to push the discovery of new languages and new forms of communication.

We consider photography a fundamental tool in the transmission and communication of any artistic creations that fit within the definition of performance. Therefore, the competition strives to promote and sustain high quality photographic projects, which combine respect for the performance itself to new expressive models that provide critical interpretative readings of this work.

The call for submissions is open to all photographers resident in Europe and 35 years old or younger. These photographers may already be engaged in collaborative work with theatres, companies, festivals, and/or they may wish to pay their homage to the world of performance through their art.

The theme for the 2011 edition is The scenic space (the candidates shall therefore create a “portrait” of theatre spaces).

The prize will be awarded in June, during the evening gala of the 2011 Hystrio Price.

The jury will be composed by: Massimo Agus (photographer); Rossella Bertolazzi (director of IED Arti Visive Milano); Maurizio Buscarino (photographer); Claudia Cannella (director of Hystrio); Cosimo Chiarelli (photography historian); Marco Giorgetti (director of the Teatro della Pergola di Firenze); Silvia Lelli (photographer); Andrea Messana (photographer); Fabrizio Arcuri (director of Accademia degli Artefatti).
